Effects of Alcohol Abuse

Effects of Alcohol Abuse

We can all think of someone who experienced a loved one or even friend that was going through an addiction. Alcohol is the most common addiction because it is so accessible for people to get their hands on. This addiction is causing people to lose their memory, reaction time, and even a rise in anxiety. These symptoms are getting blown by people with authority and action centers to help because they think that it is their fault they are in that situation. Simply that it not the case, many people end up in a situation like this after a tragedy occurred or something mentally is not right.

Impact on Others

I have personally experienced a loved one who suffered from alcohol abuse. Although I have only known one person who has gone through alcohol abuse it does not account for the “85.6 percent of people ages 18 and older reported that they drank alcohol at some point in their lifetime (Institute, N. ).” The number of alcohol users increases daily and is only affecting the society and people around us that we love. It is not only men that have this problem (59.1 percent of men in this age group and 51.0 percent of women in this age group) experience alcohol usage in the last month (Institute, N. ). The other factors are people who do not reach out for help. If you are seeing someone who is experiencing alcohol abuse you need to talk to them about seeking help. This one conversation could end up saving their lives.

Abuse

Alcohol affects people in many ways. Some people can enjoy a glass of wine with food and drink moderate amounts of alcohol in social settings without any problems. Having one or fewer drinks per day for women and two or fewer drinks per day for men is considered moderate drinking. Having more than a couple drinks continuously can lead to issues that some people can develop such as alcohol abuse or alcoholism. The biggest concern is that people who abuse alcohol may deny this problem, but there are ways to recognize alcohol abuse in others. If you are concerned it is important to recognize these warning signs and seek help if you are concerned about having a relapse.

Significance of Health

In the United States, a standard drink contains 0.6 ounces (14.0 grams or 1.2 tablespoons) of pure alcohol (Institute, N. ).” This amount of pure alcohol is found in beer, liquor, and wine. These can cause serious injuries that affect your body’s health. Such as high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, liver disease, and digestive problems. This can lead to Mental health problems, including depression and anxiety. Mental health is so important because it not only affects you, but also your emotional, psychological, and social well-being. This affects how we think, feel, and act. Not being in the right state of mind causes all these symptoms to build up until you cannot deal with it no more.
